Say Goodbye to Impulse Buying!
Know your weaknesses:
It is so easy to overspend if you are not careful. For me, I love high-end purses. I can stay on certain websites for hours looking at purses and buying 2 at a time. I have learned to avoid those websites.
Shop with a list:
You have heard the saying make a list and stick to it. Well, it’s true. Make that list if you are shopping for Christmas, birthdays or even groceries.
Use CASH when possible:
If possible, it is better to use cash. I know in this day in time it is so easy to shop online or throw your debit card down but you can’t overspend if you only have $20 in your pocket.
Overspending in Groceries:
This is such a big category to overspend in. I do my grocery shopping online and pick up at the store. I rotate between Walmart and Kroger. When I am overspending, I simply remove items that I can live without for the week.
Stop impulsively buying what you don’t need:
You aren’t saving money just because something is on sale. If you really do not need the item don’t buy it. If you are an emotional shopper and spend money when you are sad, depressed or stressed find other ways to deal with your emotions.
Create Better Money Habits:
Check in with your budget often. Know your spending limit when you are shopping. Create a category in your budget for “fun” money which helps when you just want to shop.
Try a Challenge:
Plan a Savings challenge. See how much you can save in a month by not impulse buying.
Do a Panty or Freezer challenge. Use what you have in your pantry/freezer for meals for the week.
No Spend Challenge. Set a day or two where you do not spend any money. Extend it to a full week.
30 Day rule. This is a fun one. Wait for 30 days before making any non-essential purchases. Usually after 30 days, you do not want it anyway.
I hope you enjoyed this short list of things you can do to curb impulse buying. Try one or all of these challenges. Leave me a comment and let me know which ones you will try. I have included a 5-week challenge planner for you.
